The Mixed Cooperative of Sustainable Development and Solidarity Economy of the Mid-Juruá (CODAEMJ) was created in 2003, and represents an important link in the oil seed production chain in the Mid-Juruá. This cooperative is responsible for carrying out the collection of raw materials from the forest, as well as the processing, production and transport of the final product to its customers in the cosmetics sector. One of CODAEMJ's most important customers is Natura, a Brazilian cosmetics company that uses andiroba, murumuru and ucuuba oils in its Ekos products line. With administrative headquarters in the Roque Community, municipality of Carauari, CODAEMJ also has a seed processing agribusiness on site.

CODAEMJ currently has 387 active members, with more than 60% comprising women active as extractivists. It includes participants from the Deni Indigenous Territory from along the Xeruã River, comprising a number of 450 families distributed in 56 communities in the Sustainable Development Reserves of Uacari, the Extractive Reserve of the Middle Juruá, Indigenous Lands, and its surroundings. Making use of sustainable management practices, the vegetable oil production chain generates income for these rural communities. The cooperative is a member of the Fórum do Território Médio Juruá (Middle Juruá Territory Forum) and of the Rede de Óleos Vegetais do Amazonas (Vegetable Oils Network of Amazonas).

Like all organizations in the Mid-Juruá, the cooperative operates jointly with other institutions in the territory and its objectives are not isolated. CODAEMJ's work has had a positive impact both on the local economy, by promoting income generation and improving the quality of life of its members, and on valuing the culture of traditional Amazonian people.
