The collaborative conservation in the Juruá river has been transforming the conservation paradigm on both local and regional scales. By aligning biodiversity protection with social needs, the conservation initiatives are more meaningful to the local communities and become a new way of life.
Our acting front of education and training is based on two pillars: promoting empathy toward local protagonism and conservation.
In this sense, we work with local leaders, who act as multipliers of knowledge and share positive stories, building hope and optimism.
Such strategy maximizes the learning process and the effectiveness of communication, which helps changing attitudes toward the use of natural resources and promotes behaviors favorable to conservation.
Within this front, we offer courses and training to strengthen local communities, associations, scientific and environmental education for local educators, as well as biodiversity monitoring. We also seek to provide opportunities so that people from any part of the world can experience working for the conservation of Amazon through our volunteer program and the Forest Scientists Program.
In this program, we offer courses and training to local communities and organizations. The goal is to implement sustainable management of natural resources and territory protection, as well as to strengthen local cooperatives, associations, and train young leaders. Some of the courses offered are on arapaima monitoring (some exclusive for women), marquetry (wood crafting), educommunication, and project development. Furthermore, we support the execution of workshops promoted by local associations such as the photography workshop.
In addition, we offer technical assistance in the preparation of projects with the aim of increasing local empowerment in raising funds and executing projects that aim to improve the quality of life of local residents.
The Forest Scientists Program is an initiative that aims to motivate and support the training of scientists in the region, offering courses and opportunities for local residents to have practical experiences in science. Within this program, a course in Conservation Biology has already been offered, in which students learn in practice all the steps of the scientific method through an active methodology approach developing their own research projects.
Another activity offered during the program included the participation of young people and local residents in scientific research projects. This initiative is quite diverse, but in general young people work directly with researchers in the collection of field data for different methodologies and scientific research projects, covering a variety of topics.
The Volunteer Program offers opportunities for people from any academic background, age*, and living anywhere in the world to support our work, helping us to achieve our mission. At the same time, we provide practical work experience in several sectors of the Institute, including administrative, management, communication, scientific research, educational sectors, among others, either remotely or in person.
Since the beginning of the organization, volunteer work has been essential for us to perform our activities and promote the impact we have achieved. Moreover, we seek to provide good experiences and be a gateway to the job market. We also believe that the experience of working in the socio-environmental area has contributed to the generation of future conservationists.
