Instituto Juruá was present, with its institutional team, at the Ordinary General Assembly and the 20th-anniversary celebration of the Association of Agro-Extractive Residents of the Uacari Sustainable Development Reserve (AMARU), held on February 11 and 13, 2026, in the Bom Jesus community. The participation reaffirms the Institute’s commitment to strengthening community organizations in the territory and renewing a strategic partnership for the sustainable development of Médio Juruá.

For Instituto Juruá, being present in moments like this is essential to hear the communities’ demands, align new projects, strengthen joint actions and acknowledge the achievements built over time. The assembly brought together 247 participants, including representatives from 24 communities of the Uacari Sustainable Development Reserve and several partner institutions working in the region.

The communities represented included Igarapé Preto, Bom Jesus, Bauana, Novo Idó, Barreira do Idó, Ever, Canta Galo, Manariã, Vila Ramalho, Santo Antônio do Brito, Ouro Preto, Maracajá, Lago do Pupunha, Porto Saide, Samaumeira, Caroçal, Campina, Sororoca, Toari, Cachoeira, Xibauá, Santa Clara, Vila Medeiros and Xibauazinho, as well as organizations such as FAS (Amazon Conservation Foundation), ICMBio (Chico Mendes Institute for Biodiversity Conservation), SEMA (State Secretariat for the Environment), ASPROC (Association of Agro-Extractive Producers of Carauari), Fundo Médio Juruá, Instituto Juruá and Carauari City Hall, among others.

The program featured accountability reports, follow-ups, and the creation of a timeline presented by the presidents who have led AMARU over the past two decades. The meeting was filled with sharing, emotion and acknowledgment of the collective effort that supports the association’s journey.

Among the achievements celebrated are the access to the Collective CAF, the completion of the Technical Course in Sustainable Production in Conservation Units, the Rural Pedagogy undergraduate program, the strengthening of community communication, the promotion of housing through INCRA (National Institute for Colonization and Agrarian Reform), and the training of teachers from the communities themselves — advances that reflect organization, coordination, and local leadership.

Over the past 20 years, AMARU has established itself as one of the main representative organizations of the Uacari Sustainable Development Reserve, thanks to the dedication of its leaders, members, collaborators and partners. Each administration has contributed to strengthening the association’s institutional foundation, respecting the past, consolidating the present and preparing for the future.
Instituto Juruá’s presence at the celebration underscores the importance of working alongside community organizations, recognizing that the sustainable development of the territory is built through dialogue, active listening, and ongoing cooperation.

AMARU’s 20th anniversary celebrates a history of resistance, organization and achievements — and renews the collective commitment to the next chapters of this journey in Médio Juruá.
